Scholarship Details and Financial Benefits

The institute informs that approximately 10 scholarships will be awarded to incoming undergraduate students enrolled in any program within the Faculty of Mathematics, excluding Software Engineering and Computing and Financial Management.

Each scholarship is valued between $12,000 and $25,000, and will be distributed over eight academic terms. Meaning that scholarship recipients will receive a total amount ranging from $12,000 to $25,000; and that this total amount will be spread out equally over eight academic terms.

“This is a remarkable opportunity for students globally to advance their education in mathematics while receiving substantial financial support,” said a spokesperson from the Faculty of Mathematics.

Eligibility and Application Process

The scholarships are available exclusively to international students studying on a study permit.

Waterloo cautioned that payments beyond Year one are dependent on the student maintaining an overall academic average of 80% or greater and continued enrolment in an approved program.

Applicants should also have a strong academic record, particularly in mathematics, and demonstrate achievements in mathematics or computer science contests during high school, as stated by the university;

“The typical candidate will have a distinguished academic standing, especially in mathematics, as well as a record of accomplishments in mathematics and/or computer science contests throughout high school.”

Additional consideration will be given to those showing a keen interest in extracurricular activities, such as membership in relevant clubs or involvement in math or computer science enrichment programs.

“Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate interest in mathematics or computer science beyond standard course requirements, including activities such as active membership in math or computer science clubs, enriched mathematics studies, employment/voluntary experiences, or hobbies,” added the spokesperson.

Participation in student government, athletics, music, or other extracurricular activities will also be taken into account during the selection process.
