Skoda India has launched the much-anticipated Kylaq with a starting price of Rs 7.89 lakh, ex-showroom. Bookings for this compact SUV will begin on December 2, and deliveries are slated to begin from January 27, 2025. It should be noted that the carmaker, for now, has only announced the starting price. Set to compete in the highly-congested, highly-contested sub-four-metre SUV category, the Kylaq will go up against popular models like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Kia Sonet.
Skoda Kylaq: Design
Design-wise, the Kylaq features Skoda’s signature styling with a bold grille and split LED headlights accented by sleek LED DRLs. Essentially, it looks like a refreshed, chopped-down version of the Kushaq. The model has debuted in a Olive Gold colour.

Skoda Kylaq: Features and safety
Built on Skoda’s MQB-A0-IN platform, the Kylaq’s interior is packed with features, including a 10.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, and rear AC vents. It also includes sought-after Indian market amenities like a single-pane sunroof, keyless entry, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, and leatherette upholstery. Sound is handled by a six-speaker Canton system, while it also gets ambient lighting.
Safety features come standard across all variants, offering six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, ISOFIX mounts, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers. One standout feature is powered seat adjustment for both the driver and front passenger. The Kylaq gets a 446-litre boot, which can be expanded with a 60:40 split-folding rear seat.
Skoda Kylaq: Engine and importance
Under the hood, the Kylaq gets a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine delivering 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque. It offers two transmission choices: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Skoda claims the SUV can go from 0-100 kmph in 10.5 seconds.
For Skoda, the Kylaq, at this price point could be a very important model for the Czech brand as it returns to the mass market segment. India’s importance to Skoda’s global strategy is underscored by the fact that 50% of Skoda cars produced outside the Czech Republic are manufactured here, with the brand aiming for 1,00,000 units in annual sales by 2026. With the Kylaq, Skoda will aim to capture those figures at a fast pace.
