An 11-year-old boy was shot dead on a cherry farm, near Ficksburg, in the Free State at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said two armed men arrived at the farm on Sunday night, around 21:50, and shot at farm dwellers in two houses “without uttering a word to the occupants”.

“The suspects fled the scene on foot and got into an unknown car parked on the side of the R26 road, near the farmstead,” said Mophiring.

Emergency personnel declared the 11-year-old dead at the scene.
