Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises has been advised that only one of the documents on the sale of 51% of SAA to Takatso should remain confidential, while the rest can be publicly aired.
The committee has been in a tussle with Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan since December last year over access to a list of documents, following allegations by the department’s former director-general Kgathatso Tlhakudi that Gordhan had rigged the process. In December, Gordhan told the committee that he would not provide any documents unless it was at an in-camera hearing where MPs signed non-disclosure agreements.
Parliamentary committees are open to the public and media and can only be closed in circumstances that justify the protection of other Constitutional rights.
