The South African Jewish Board of Deputies reports a surge in antisemitism in South Africa, with over 80 incidents in six weeks.

Antisemitism
in South Africa has “increased nearly tenfold” and is being
“fuelled by inflammatory rhetoric by some in political leadership”,
according to the SA Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD).

The
organisation said there were as many as 80 incidents in six weeks, and compared
the surge in antisemitic sentiment to campaigns by “local Nazi-supporting
white groupings” in the 1930s.

SAJDB
associate director David Saks said conflict in the Middle East often resulted
in “sharp spikes in levels of antisemitic activity around the world”
and that South Africa was no exception.
