WBF super featherweight world champion, Ridwan Oyekola, is set for a tough test against Ghanaian Emmanuel Quartey in another form of the ‘Jollof Derby’ in the main event of Core Afrique Boxing Promotions ‘Homecoming’ event at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos on Friday (today).

The event is tagged ‘Homecoming’ as it will feature the return of some of Nigerian top fighters from outside the country.

Other boxers featuring on the undercard include Oto Joseph, Rilwan Babatunde, Kabiru Towolawi, Rasheed Adeyemo, Adeyemi Adekanla, Celina Agwu, Ibrahim Taofeeq and Bartholomew Abuchi.

Speaking to PUNCH Sports Extra ahead of the bout, Oyekola believes he can knock out his more experienced opponent on October 27.

“I know I can beat him, and I believe it will be with a knockout on Friday. I have prepared for this fight, and I am ready to give my all in the fight against the Ghanaian,” he said.

“I prepared well in the training camp, and I know that as long as I train well, I will win no matter who I face.”

Japan-based Oyekola, who started his professional career in 2017, has won 11 fights, six via knockouts, suffered two losses, and seen out two draws ahead of his fight against Quartey.

Nicknamed ‘Scorpion’, the Nigerian has only suffered one loss since 2019 and will be keen to avoid another.

The visiting Quartey holds a record of 24 wins, 21 of them by knockouts, nine losses and one draw. His most recent bout against Jerry Lartey on October 8 ended controversially.

After 12 rounds, the judges announced a split decision win for Quartey. However, Ghana Boxing Authority president Abraham Neeqaye, during a broadcast on October 9, reversed the result, announcing Lartey as the winner of the bout.
