It was a dramatic final day of the 2022/23 English Premier League season for Nigerian stars as Alex Iwobi survived relegation with Everton at the expense of compatriots Kelechi Ihenacho and Wilfred Ndidi, who went down with 2016 champions Leicester City.

Everton finished two points above Leicester with 36 points from 38 games.

Iwobi played all minutes for the Toffees on Sunday as they preserved their topflight status for a 69th straight season with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth. It’s the second consecutive season the Toffees would secure their topflight status on the final day of the season.

Abdoulaye Docoure’s 57th minute strike gave hosts Everton the needed win to send apprehensive Toffees fans into rapturous celebrations.

Having finished the season with two goals and seven assists, Iwobi reportedly wants a move away from Goodison Park.

Leicester City beat West Ham United 2-1 but the win wasn’t enough to save them from relegation.

Forward Iheanacho was one of the few bright sparks at the club and he featured in the last game while Ndidi was missing through injury.

Despite being on the bench for a reasonable part of the campaign, Iheanacho ended the season with nine goals contribution, with five goals and four assists.
