Liverpool Football Club have announced the new custodian of its number 9 jersey ahead of the 2023/24 football season.

The Reds confirmed that Darwin Nunez will wear the number which was previously worn by Roberto Firmino who left Liverpool as a free agent last season ( 2023/24). According to reports, the Urugyan opted to take the number which was left vacant by the Brazilian forward player.

Liverpool confirmed that fans who have already purchased new 2023-24 home and away jerseys printed with the name ‘Darwin’ and the number ‘27’ will be personally reimbursed by Nunez with a like-for-like exchange for a ‘Darwin 9’ shirt.

Nunez will become the latest player to wear the famous No. 9 shirt at Anfield. The number has previously been won by club legends such as Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres.

The forward player joined Liverpool from Benfica during the 2022 summer transfer window but has failed to hit the ground running since he joined the Reds. However, Liverpool fans will hope this change in jersey number will bring good fortune his way when the season kicks off.
