The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Saturday, held a closed-door meeting with the former Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, in Lagos State, The Guardian authoritatively gathered.
Though details of the meeting were still sketchy as of the time of writing this report, a source, who pleaded anonymity, informed our correspondent that the meeting dwelled on collaboration between the duo and issues bordering on national politics.
The source hinted that “both Aregbesola and Kwankwaso discussed possible synergy aimed at promoting mutual working relationships and other critical issues affecting the nation’s polity.”
It is recalled that Aregbesola, who governed Osun State between 2010 and 2018 under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), recently pulled his group, the Omoluabi Progressives, out of the party after prolonged irreconcilable differences regarding alleged ostracisation, expulsion of the group’s leaders without a fair hearing, and failure to restructure the APC, among others.
After his exit from Osun APC, alongside his members, political parties, including NNPP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have been making overtures to Aregbesola to join them ahead of 2026 governorship poll in the state.
When contacted, the state chairman of NNPP in Osun, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, confirmed the meeting between the former governor and Kwankwaso in Lagos State.
Odeyemi stated, “The meeting which takes place at the residence of Aregbesola in Lagos reflected a shared commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and fostering national development.
He added, “The only third force in Nigerian political landscape presently is NNPP and the party leadership will leave no stone on turn in making Nigeria great again.”
