Former Fenerbahce midfielder İlker Yağcıoğlu likened Victor Osimhen’s attitude towards his teammate to that of a child as he lauded the on-loan Napoli striker for his influence at Super Lig leaders Galatasaray, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
After failing to secure a permanent move away from Napoli in the summer, Osimhen was offered a loan move by the Turkish club and he has been revelling, scoring 11 goals and four assists in 14 league games.
His latest was a penalty during their 1-1 draw against Hatayaspor away from home on Saturday as they held onto their lead at the top of the table.
He has been the club’s talisman in the Europa League as well, where he has notched three goals and one assist in four appearances.
Beyond Osimhen’s goal contributions, Yağcıoğlu is a fan of the 26-year-old’s impact in the Galatasaray dressing room.
“Osimhen’s contribution to Galatasaray is very high, don’t evaluate it only based on goals,” Yağcıoğlu said via GsGazete.
“Look at Osimhen doing somersaults on the ground after Yunus’ goal. He celebrates like a child. I’m really surprised how he felt such a sense of belonging in such a short time. It is really strange but it is a good thing for Galatasaray.
“He has also established a bond with his fans. This guy may go on loan or go to another team next year, but he likes this place.”
The transfer speculations surrounding Osimhen are yet to disappear and the Nigerian recently stuck to his short-term project in Turkey by rejecting offers to lure him away from Galatasaray this season.
English Premier League side, Manchester United were reportedly keen to add the Super Eagles forward to their attack as the Old Trafford landlords looked to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s squad but the deal didn’t see the light of the day.
