Man recalls being mocked by after taking up bus conductor job

A Nigerian man recently shared his inspiring journey of overcoming adversity on his social media page, recounting how he was once mocked and ridiculed while working as a bus conductor.

In 2013, fresh out of secondary school and after losing his mother, he took on the responsibility of supporting his younger siblings who were still in school.

To make ends meet, he worked as a bus conductor, earning daily wages to help his family.

During one of his shifts, an ex-classmate boarded his bus, took pictures of him without speaking, and posted them on Facebook with the caption, “Our most likely to succeed dey do conductor.”

The post went unnoticed by the man until a month later when he came across it while visiting a friend. The mocking post deeply affected his self-esteem and confidence.

In his social media post, the man shared how it took years of self-reflection and battling negative emotions to rebuild his confidence.

Despite the humiliation, he fought through the negativity and emerged stronger, finding pride in his resilience.

“Circa 2013, I lost my mom fresh out of secondary school. I had to work as a bus conductor to earn daily pay as my siblings were quite young and in school.”

“On one of my outings, an ex-classmate of mine boarded my bus. She took my pictures without saying a word to me & posted it on her Facebook page with the caption ‘Out most likely to succeed dey do conductor.”

“I didn’t see the post till a month later when I went to visit another friend. It damaged my self-esteem for a while.”

It took a long time to regain my confidence. I had to fight lots of demons to get to where I am today. We don’t know the circumstances behind this friend’s current situation. Not everything is because someone ‘wasted their potential.”
