Background
Young scientists, educators, innovators and knowledge-holders around the world are playing an increasingly important role in producing knowledge, providing solutions and raising awareness for climate action. The Youth UNESCO Climate Action Network (YoU-CAN) was launched at the COP25 as a UNESCO flagship that connects existing youth climate networks worldwide to strengthen cooperation and foster multidisciplinary youth-led climate action and research. It aims to advance climate action through:

  • Proposing creative and innovative actions responding to local challenges and needs;
  • Supporting youth in the coproduction and dissemination of knowledge;
  • Strengthening youth capacities;
  • Ensuring youth voices are heard by participating in high-level climate events and dialogues.

Proposed Tasks
The intern, under the overall authority of the UNESCO Youth Programme, shall perform the following tasks:

  1. Support YoU-CAN, the UNESCO project team and UNESCO Youth Focal Points in the process of setting up the opening of YoU-CAN to new Membership.
  2. Support the work of and regularly liaise with the YoU-CAN Steering Committee.
  3. Update the mapping and database of existing youth and climate networks as needed, particularly with those working with UNESCO.
  4. Map youth-relevant and climate-related UNESCO activities and publications in which YoU-CAN could participate or contribute to.
  5. Support the Steering Committee in the implementation of their activities.
  6. Provide content for the YoU-CAN webpage and support for the management of its platform.
  7. Assist with the mobilization of young people and youth groups to support the operationalization of YoU-CAN through social media platforms.
  8. Assist with the monitoring and reporting of activities in which YoU-CAN may be  involved.
  9. Manage the YoU-CAN mailbox.
  10. Draft relevant presentation documents, materials and reports as needed.
  11. Support, when needed, any fundraising initiative for the Network.
