The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of all 20 Local Government Areas and 236 wards in the state.

OGSIEC Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, announced the results in the early hours of Sunday during a live broadcast held at the Commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, while presenting the official results of the polls.

According to Osibodu, a total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship elections across the 20 local government areas.

The elections saw participation from 19 political parties, including the Accord Party (AP), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied People’s Movement (APM), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action People’s Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Boot Party (BP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Meanwhile, Olalekan Shoyinka, the Action Democratic Party’s (ADP) chairmanship candidate for the Abeokuta South Local Government Area, described the just-concluded election as a flagrant attack on democracy.

Shoyinka, in a post on his social media handles, said the events of the November 16 LG elections constituted a daylight robbery of democratic principles.

His post reads:

“Today’s local government elections in Ogun State have not just been marred by irregularities—they represent a blatant assault on democracy.

“What transpired was not an election conducted by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), but a premeditated operation orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rob the people of their mandate.

“The shambolic display witnessed today should not be described as an election but as a state-sanctioned coup and a travesty.

“The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission has bungled its last chance of credibility and trust with the travesty on display today,” he said.
