The 2024 United States presidential election began on Tuesday morning with Kamala Harris and Donald Trump battling neck to neck with three votes each in the tiny New Hampshire township of Dixville Notch, which kicked off as one of the first places in the country to report its presidential preference.
LEADERSHIP reports that in his final rally, Trump had described his opponent Harris as an “evil Democrat system.” Trump’s speech echoed familiar themes, focusing on promises to impose tariffs and crack down on illegal immigration. He concluded his campaign in Michigan, where he has wrapped up his last three presidential bids. Trump’s children joined him on stage, underscoring the personal nature of his appeal to voters.
Meanwhile, Harris wrapped up her 107-day campaign without mentioning Trump directly. Instead, she delivered a message, pledging to “turn the page on a decade of politics that has been driven by fear and division.” Harris made her final push to voters alongside singer Lady Gaga, who performed “God Bless America” at the rally. Oprah Winfrey also took the stage with 10 first-time voters in the US election, offering a stark warning to the crowd: “If we don’t show up tomorrow, it is entirely possible that we will not have the opportunity to ever cast a ballot again.”
