Tems opens up about 9-5 struggles before fame

The songstress had to quit her white-collar job in order to fully pursue a career in music.

Temilade Openiyi, the Nigerian award-winning singer-songwriter popularly known as Tems, recently opened up about her work life before fully committing to her music career.

The global superstar, whose 2024 album Born in the Wild has been generating impressive numbers and significant media attention, shared insights on her journey from a 9-to-5 job to international fame.

In a candid interview with American radio host and actor Kurt Alexander, famously known as Big Boy, Tems revealed that she previously worked as a digital marketer for a furniture company. Despite her dedication, she faced a demotion, which ultimately pushed her to pursue music full-time. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted that the corporate world wasn’t for her and took a leap of faith to chase her dreams in music.
