The newly elected Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano State, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, has said the party did not participate in Saturday’s local government election in the state because the process was undemocratic.

Addressing newsmen at Press Center, NUJ, Kano, on Monday, Kibiya said, “There is no way local government elections under the kind of governments we operate in Nigeria, more specifically at the state level, would be free and fair.

“The last council election in Kano was the worst in the history of local government elections because from the composition of the electoral umpire to the selling of forms and screening, it was never free; so what’s the essence of participating?”

Speaking on his leadership and what he intends to achieve, Kibiya explained that he is going to enhance the democratic process by strengthening the democratic framework within the party.

“This will ensure that every voice is heard and every vote counts, with focus on identifying and supporting credible leaders who are dedicated to serving the public with integrity and excellence,” he added.

To this end, he said the party has rolled out a 10-Year Development Program that will engage professionals from various fields, which every elected official will commit to implement.

“Importantly, this document will be developed by the entire people of Kano State, ensuring that it reflects the needs and aspirations of our citizens,” he said.

“We will provide a platform where the problems facing Kano State can be discussed and solutions thoughtfully developed. This includes addressing the crisis of leadership, institutional relationship and every social, educational, religious, and economic issue affecting our state.

“My administration will upload high standards of discipline and accountability within the party. We will create an environment where excellence is not just encouraged but expected.

“I invite all citizens – party members and non-party members alike – to join us in this notable crusade. Together we can build a brighter future for our state. Your ideas, participation, and advocacy are essential as we strive for excellence and true service to our people. Let us work hand-in-hand to create a government that is responsive, transparent, and accountable.

“The time for change is now, and together we will succeed. Success can only be achieved if we work together and re-enforced one another,” the PDP chairman added while speaking on his plans for the party and the state.
