Aduana Stars to test Hearts’ form today

Accra Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars will clash in an explosive Ghana Premier League (GPL) Week five encounter today at the University of Ghana (UG) Stadium at 6pm.

This is a game that has attracted the attention of a huge number of Phobian fans following a period of resurgence that has seen them overcome a two-match losing streak to win and draw in their last two games.

Back at their adopted home ground and in front of their home fans, Coach Ouattara’s charges would aim for their second win of the five-week old campaign.

Despite starting poorly with defeats to Holy Stars and Heart of Lions, the Phobians turned on the style with their first win over Bechem United and followed up with a draw against Nations FC.

Aduana Stars are equally struggling but a game against Hearts can always spark some enthusiasm from opponents to suddenly return to the best form.

That is the dynamics expected to propel the Dormaa lads to go for the Jugular as they aim to put their campaign back on track but Hearts in front of their home fans and know too well that a point lost at home can be disastrous, they will do their maximum best to deliver for the fans.

League leaders, Medeama SC, would also be in action at the T&A Stadium to host Heart of Lions tomorrow in another 6pm local time game.

With the points gap now narrowed to just one following Asante Kotoko’s 1-0 win over Nsoatreman FC in an outstanding game at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi, midweek, Medeama will begin to feel the pressure in their pursuit to consolidate the top spot.

They would have a tough game in hand considering the form of the Lions who have shown tremendous improvement on the performance that nearly plunged them into relegation last season.

The Porcupine Warriors, Asante Kotoko, would entertain Accra Lions at the Len Clay Stadium in another potential cracker.

Currently occupying second position on the table, Kotoko is eyeing a win to overtake the leaders, Medeama, in case of a slip.

Karela United would welcome defending champions, FC Samartex 1996, to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale while Nsoatreman FC welcome Legon Cities to the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsuatre.

GoldStars FC and Bechem United would clash at the Duns Park in Bibiani, a game the hosts are expected to capitalise on home advantage to win.

At the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea will stay at home for the second successive time as they welcome Young Apostles FC.

Dreams FC’s search for their first win will also continue on Sunday when they host Nations FC at their adopted Tuba Astro turf.

At the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports complex, Vision FC will come face to face with Basake Holy.

AN Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Randy Abbey, has expressed concerns over Kwesi Appiah’s dual responsibilities as Head Coach of Sudan and a member of the GFA Executive Council.

Abbey described the situation as ‘untidy,’ raising questions about the potential conflict of interest and the practicality of balancing both roles effectively.

Appiah, a former coach of the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, was recently appointed as the Head Coach of Sudan’s national football team while still serving on the GFA’s Executive Council.

This development has sparked a debate within the football community, with some questioning how Appiah can manage these significant duties in two different capacities.

The issue has become a topic for discussion among stakeholders, as the GFA continues to manage its responsibilities on both the local and international fronts, with the two countries, Ghana and Sudan set to meet at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 11, 2024, in the Match day 3 of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.

He said this on Metro TV Sports in the lead-up to Ghana’s clash against the Sudanese.

“Kwesi Appiah has not attended any meeting since the AFCON draw, he has not attended any meetings. So I’m sure he’s exempting himself because obviously he knows that issues of the game will be discussed.”

“Well, it’s an untidy situation but we have to do everything we can to win that game. We know the consequences if we don’t win.

So we need to win that and then once we have dealt with that, we will then focus on the subsequent game,” he said.

But of course, for now, we need to focus on how we will get the three points at all costs against Sudan in Accra,” he added.
