AS Saint-Étienne stopped Nantes forward Moses Simon from equalling club legend Emiliano Sala’s record in a thrilling 2-2 draw on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Simon was close to matching the Argentine’s long-standing record as the player with most goals or assists in five consecutive matches.

Simon has been impressive for the Canaries since the start of the season, demonstrating a high level of consistency in the previous four games before Sunday’s encounter.

He started his impressive run with a goal in a 2-0 win against AJ Auxerre, followed by another goal in their 3-1 victory at Montpellier.

Despite a 2-1 defeat to Reims, the Nigerian provided a key assist and replicated the feat in a 1-1 draw against Angers.

The 29-year-old was close to etching his name in the club’s record as the only second player in the 21st century after Sala to have delivered such consistent performances.

According to Ouest-France as per HDM, Sala, who remains a beloved figure at the club, was decisive in five consecutive games twice during his time at Nantes.

Sala’s first streak came in September-October 2016, when he netted three goals against Marseille, Rennes, and Nice, while also assisting against Bastia and Lorient.

His second run of form came in October-November 2018, scoring seven goals in five matches, including ties against Toulouse, Amiens, and Rennes, with another assist against Angers.

Simon will hope to continue his fine form in front of goal when they face Lyon in their next game before the international break.
