The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Imo State has rejected the results of the Saturday, September 21 local government elections conducted in the state, declaring its readiness to challenge its outcomes in court.

The decision of the party was captured in a petition sent to the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) by the LP’s state Chairman, Ifeanyi Eluwa and made available to newsmen in Owerri.

LEASERSHIP recalls that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won all the 27 chairmanship and 305 wards in the just-concluded local government elections.

The party also condemned in its entirety, the procedure in which the elections were conducted, accusing ISIEC of undermining the guidelines of the process to favour the APC-led administration.

Eluwa stated that no election took place in any polling unit in Imo State, regretting the claim by ISIEC that there was election.

The SDP state chairman noted that the nation was being eroded with bad leadership under the APC-led administration, vowing that the party would challenge the outcome of the polls he alleged were rigged by the APC in court.

Stating the grounds for the party’s displeasure, the LP chairman said, “ISIEC failed to officially demand for and or release Form ISIEC DF001 and ISIEC DF002 to the qualified candidates.

“The Commission failed to publish the list of qualified candidates in the constituency where the candidate intends to contest the election.

“The persons and their party declared winner were at the time not qualified to contest the election. The election was invalidated by reasons of corrupt practices and non-compliance with provisions of the law.”
