Gyang Bere, the director of press and public affairs to Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, has denied that his principal has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A banner with the governor’s image suggesting his defection to the APC has been circulating on social media.

In a statement on Friday, Bere described the viral post as a “baseless rumour” and “orchestrated falsehood” crafted by “detractors” to create division between the governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said the governor has not authorised anyone to create or circulate any such flex banner, adding that Mutfwang remains steadfast in his commitment to the PDP.

He said the governor firmly upholds the party’s values and the trust placed on him by the people of the state who elected him.

“This orchestrated falsehood, crafted by certain individuals and executed by mischief-makers, is aimed at creating division between the governor and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as his dedicated supporters in Plateau state,” the statement reads.

“While this baseless rumour does not warrant a formal response, it has become necessary to dispel any misconceptions that may mislead the public and to preserve the governor’s integrity.

“The governor acknowledged that the people of Plateau state regard the PDP as their trusted political platform for leadership, and the notion that he has contemplated leaving it for the APC is entirely false.”

The governor’s aide said the public should disregard the actions of the detractors whose sole aim is to tarnish the Mutfwang’s reputation for selfish political gain.
