Police are searching for an alleged serial rapist who escaped holding cells at the Temba police station in Hammanskraal, Gauteng, on Thursday night.
Tshegofatso Lebudi, 19, who was facing four counts of rape and other serious crimes, was arrested in June.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Herman Moremi said the suspect was remanded in Temba holding cells on 7 September while the investigation against him continued.

“At around 23:00, when police visited the cells, the suspect was not found,” he said.
“Police appeal to members of the community to be vigilant and cautious and to inform the police immediately when they come across the suspect.”
He urged anyone with information to contact the police or call crime stop on 08600 10111.
