President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on all stakeholders to conduct themselves with peace, civility, and respect for the democratic process.

The election, scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024, has drawn attention from across the country as citizens prepare to cast their votes.

In a press release by the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu appealed to the candidates, political parties, and their supporters to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.

The president emphasized the importance of respecting the voters’ choices and promoting a spirit of sportsmanship throughout the electoral process.

“Democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game,” Tinubu said.

He noted the commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conducting a free and fair election, and called for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the success of the process.

Tinubu commended the campaigns run by the governorship candidates and political parties, noting their focus on the people of Edo State.

As tensions typically run high during election periods, the President also called on the citizens of Edo State to remain calm and resolve any disputes amicably through proper channels.

He reassured the public of the professionalism and integrity of the security agencies and INEC officials, expressing his unwavering confidence that they would remain impartial and uphold the sanctity of the electoral process.

“We believe in the people’s ability to make informed decisions about their future leaders,” the president said.
