Nigeria champions Enugu Rangers look to welcome Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa to their squad after the 31-year-old hinted on a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Having previously played for Kano Pillars twice, Musa sparked excitement among fans on X on Monday evening by hinting at a potential return to the Nigerian topflight.
“Let’s go again. Which of these teams do you wish for me to sign?” Musa posted on X with a photo of all clubs in the NPFL this season.
Enugu Rangers and their general manager, Amobi Ezeaku, were among the numerous X users who asked the player to join the eight-time champions.
The Flying Antelopes coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, also spoke highly about the prospect of Musa joining his squad.
“I don’t know about it, but if truly he is going to come, it is going to be a welcome development for us because Musa is a superstar who is disciplined and a player everyone can work with. He is disciplined and has the right attitude,” Ilechukwu told PUNCH Sports Extra.
“His image alone is something good for us. He has played for top clubs in Europe, and he ranks among one of the best scorers in the league. He will be a source of motivation for our current players and many other Nigeria internationals to also come back to the league.
“He won’t also have a problem settling down here because Rangers is a big club with the capacity to welcome players from all over the world, not just Nigeria. Particularly, we also have a lot of northerners in our team right now, so he won’t be lonely,” Ilechukwu added.
Although the NPFL 2024/25 summer transfer window has closed, the Super Eagles winger can still walk into the squad as a free agent.
The head of competitions of the NPFL, Sunday Obaseki, also confirmed this to our correspondent.
“Yes, he can be registered. Ahmed Musa will be on the Transfer Matching System, so he won’t have a problem,” Obaseki said.
In 2021, Musa rejoined former champions Kano Pillars for a short stint, having previously played for the club in 2009, when he ended the season as the top scorer with 18 goals before joining VVV Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie.
His European adventure has seen him play for CSKA Moscow and Leicester City before moving to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Nassr. Musa has been without a club since February after mutually terminating his contract with Sivasspor in Turkey.
