UD Tenerife and Super Falcons forward Omorinsola Babajide is over the moon after winning the Most Valuable Player award for her sterling performance during Saturday’s Primera División Femenina 4-1 thrashing of Sevilla.

Assisted by Nigeria teammate Monday Gift, Babajide delivered a sumptuous long-range shot in the 28th minute, which left Sevilla’s goalkeeper in a haze, putting Tenerife 2-0 up in the week 2 encounter at Campo de Fútbol de Adeje, Adeje.

The skilful forward shared her excitement in an Instagram post on Tuesday, with special gratitude to the supporters who voted for her.

“Happy to have won the first ever charifas official MVP award. Thank you to all my supporters who voted for me. Also, also kudos to all our UD Tenerife supporters who showed up to our first home game of the season. We appreciate you all,” wrote the 26-year-old.

Her Nigeria teammate Monday Gift also showed up strongly during the match, coming off with a brace. The striker put her team in front on 22 minutes and completed her brace on 40 minutes after providing an assist for her compatriot.

The 22-year-old, who is playing her third season with Tenerife, also shared her delight on the social media platform, “Proud of my team, UD Tenerife, three points in the bag.”

It was Tenerife’s first win in two matches into the season, which leaves them in the eighth position on the log.

Next for Babajide, Monday, and their Tenerife gang in Primera División Femenina is a trip top Espanyol on Sunday, September 22, for their week 3 fixture at Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque.
