The sight of uMkhonto we Sizwe Party’s (MK Party) green shirts has become commonplace in KwaZulu-Natal, suggesting a lot of money is behind its campaign, and this has caught the attention of the ANC and the IFP.

The MK Party is said to have filled the streets of Ward 8 in the AbaQulusi Local Municipality (an IFP stronghold) during the party’s by-elections debut this week.

The IFP scored 505 votes to the ANC’s 336 and the MK Party’s 211 votes. Meanwhile, the EFF picked up 13 votes which was less than the Organic Humanity Movement’s (OHM) tally of 20.
