Matthew Westner endured aching joints and swollen tendons in his ankles and feet through 21 half-marathons in 21 consecutive days – and he did it to raise awareness about mental health and funds for the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag).

In that time, Westner, 31, managed to raise more than R100 000.

The Benoni Northerns Athletics Club runner started on 1 December and said the 21 days were a rollercoaster of mixed emotions.
