About the Role

The Youth Engagement Coordinator oversees the CIVICUS youth engagement strategy. The coordinator manages the processes, tools, and approaches to facilitate members’ meaningful participation within the CIVICUS alliance, helps to identify and connect resourcing opportunities for youth organisations and activists; contributes to community-building through regular communications and convenings; leads the development, launch, implementation, and tracking of youth-specific projects; and represents CIVICUS in all external consortiums and events related to youth civic participation and development.

The coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all the learnings from youth related pilot projects and efforts are effectively shared in the learning and knowledge management systems of the organisation. This will in turn support CIVICUS staff learning journeys and professional development. The role includes important fundraising or leveraging resources and partnerships building.

Key Requirements                                                                                                

  • Candidates must have minimum of four years’ working within civil society organisations on youth engagement and programming. Experience in voluntary work as a young activist is strongly encouraged.
  • Diplomas/degrees in the following disciplines will be taken into account, although they are not mandatory for this position: development studies, international relations, political science, economics, sociology, organisational development, social entrepreneurial, or related field.
  • Fluency in verbal and written communication in English, additional language proficiency in Spanish, French and/or Arabic.

About the Role

We are looking for a UN Advocacy and Network Officer to drive the implementation of CIVICUS advocacy priorities with various stakeholders and within various UN human rights mechanisms (UPR, HRC, and select Treaty Bodies) in Geneva. The role also contributes to network engagement and member support activities, and in the framework of its tasks is required to interpret and synthesise information about trends in relation to civic space, in accordance with CIVICUS’ mission and members’ needs.

Key Requirements    

  • A degree or Diploma in international relations, law, politics, or relevant social sciences from a reputable university. In cases of exceptional experience, this criterion can be waived.
  • Demonstrable experience of engaging with diverse society actors and good networks within civil society.
  • English with other languages beneficial
  • At least 2 -5 years’ experience in an international policy development or advocacy environment, at least 2 years in similar position/ functional area
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent IT skills, including experience with MS Office and Human Resource Information Systems.
  • Good understanding of international relations and policy making
  • Good understanding of the civil society landscape and global politics
  • Working knowledge of UN systems and processes, especially those pertaining to human rights, including committees and special procedures
  • Ability to network at a high level with diplomats and officials from intergovernmental institutions
