Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed his desire to make the 2024/25 season his best yet after a fine start to the campaign with Fulham, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 28-year-old, who is Fulham’s joint-top scorer with five Premier League goals this season, matching his tally from last term, credits his form to the freedom of expression granted by manager Marco Silva.

“You could say it is my best start to the season—I just have to keep it going and make sure it’s my best season. That’s the aim,” Iwobi said.

The former Arsenal man, who grew up idolising his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha and Ronaldinho, believes playing with freedom has been key to his development.

“Those two were my favourite players to watch growing up,” Iwobi added. “It showed me that just being yourself, being who you are, you get accepted.”

Silva’s influence has been crucial to Iwobi’s excellent performances, with the Portuguese manager giving his players licence to express themselves both on and off the pitch.

“If I do make a mistake, I can go again,” Iwobi said.

“It’s nice to have a manager who gives you the confidence to do that. Players normally do well when they are confident and with me, feeling confident to express myself on and off the pitch, I almost feel unstoppable.”

The midfielder, who will spend Sunday helping 100 families with Christmas dinner at his ‘AleXpress’ supermarket initiative in Canning Town, believes Fulham can compete with the Premier League’s elite after their recent draw with Arsenal.

Currently sitting 10th in the league, Fulham face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday with European qualification a realistic target this season.

“We are going there to get a result,” Iwobi insisted.

“You never know in the Premier League—in any game, anything can happen. Even though they are at the top of the league, we want to get the desired result.”
