The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is allegedly planning to use money taken from local government councils to prosecute candidates in the upcoming Kano State local government elections, according to allegations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the chairman of the APC in Kano State, made the accusation in a statement on Thursday.

According to Abbas, the administration is polishing plans to use money intended for local government councils to support individuals it has chosen to run in the election.

The election for local government is scheduled for October 26.

He pleaded with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to foil the plot.

He stated that the state ministry’s oversight of local government affairs and financial transactions was now crucial for the anti-crime organizations.

“To ascertain whether the funds have been tampered with, the EFCC and ICPC should conduct a forensic audit of the 44 local government councils in Kano State,” stated Abbas.

Abbas further requested the anti-graft agencies to extend an invitation to the caretaker chairmen who were dissolved to present a list of their most recent outlays.

He claimed that by doing this, the ruling NNPP would be less likely to alter or embezzle LG monies intended for local government elections.
