Upcoming MG electric CUV to be called MG Windsor: Everything we know so far

MG Motor India today confirmed that its upcoming all-electric model will be called as MG Windsor. MG calls the new model a Crossover utility vehicle (CUV) and the model is inspired by Windsor castle located in the United Kingdom. The Windsor is the third all-electric model by MG in the Indian market after the ZS EV and Comet EV, it’s expected to make it official debut on August 6, 2024.

The MG Windsor EV is essentially re-badged version of the Wuling Cloud EV that’s sold overseas by parent group SAIC.The CUV will be positioned below ZS EV in the Indian market and will rival the Nexon.ev and the Mahindra XUV 400. In terms of design, the Windsor EV features a sleek, boxy shape with a light bar spanning across the width of the car at the front and rear. Other highlights include a split headlamp setup, aerodynamically designed alloy wheels, chunky wheel arches, front door-mounted ORVMs, integrated spoiler, squared LED taillights, flush-fitting door handles and much more.

Moving inside, it’s expected to get a light light-themed dashboard layout with twin screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Other expected features include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, 360-degree camera, ADAS suite and much more. A few features such as a panoramic sunroof and two-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls have already been confirmed by a teaser.

The Wuling cloud EV is offered with two battery pack options overseas – a 37.9kWh with a 360 km range and a 50.6kWh with a 460km range (claimed). It comes paired with a front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that puts out 134hp. However, the Windsor EV in India is expected to get a 50.3kWh pack (same as ZSEV) with a claimed range of up to 460 km in one full charge.
